Alan Fishman

Chairman of the Board

Alan Fishman, cofounder and chairman of Beech Street Capital, has had a long and distinguished career in banking and finance. He was named chairman and CEO of Independence Community Bank in 2001 and, after its merger in 2006, appointed president and COO of Sovereign Bank. During the financial crisis, he served briefly as CEO of Washington Mutual Bank.

Mr. Fishman became chairman of Meridian Capital Group before launching Beech Street and Ladder Capital Finance, a commercial real estate investment company, in 2009. He also serves on the boards of several private companies.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Mr. Fishman is deeply involved in community service in the borough. He is chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, chairman of the Brooklyn Community Foundation, and chairman of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation. Mr. Fishman is also co-chairman of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership and serves on the boards of several other not-for-profit and civic organizations.
